We can only hope that pinot noir in Burgundy will be able to adapt to the climate change. Maybe that’s why some of their winemakers are now experimenting in Canada ;-)

Yes Marsha they do experiment here in Canada, but the result you would’nt want to taste… Beurk… And everybody goes : “mmm, ok, not bad…” (they only hope…). Because, as we all know, it’s not only the temperature, but the soil, the sun, and… the know-how. After all, it took a while for the Californian to come up with great wines.

Here in California I don’t know about great wines but we are seeing higher alcohol contents to go along with the grapes, like zin, that can grow in higher temperatures. That’s all well and good but I fear a loss of diversity not only in wines but the foods that go with them. I don’t want to be bonked by every wine, sometimes subtlety is wanted.
Love your blog, I am linking you!

Hey Olivier
You are funny no way that is your first time on ice!
Well, I got busted by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. I misquoted on the 1976 Blind tasting in Paris! Got a call from Marketing Director Sue! Had to print a retraction hahahaha Love it. Hey watch out for those American girls they will take all your money!
Well we will see with global warming I think soon we will be out of gasoline so no more carbon! We are getting smarter too, many wineries are going green. But only time will tell you are correct though if things keep going Paris will warm up!

Christine - Have you tried Le Clos Jordanne ? There is good soil in Niagara - a lot of limestone just as there is in France. The vines are young but they are starting to produce some good whites that are much better than anything I’ve had from California. I’m with Andrea - who wants wine they need to drink with a chaser?

Love your way of introducing your “video articles”. I might show up at a tasting in a few weeks, are you always that funny during tastings too ?
By the way, thank you for talking about global warming and its effects on wine : almost no-one does, while I think it is really worth mentioning.

Response to Julie - yes Olivier is that amusing in person. My kids and I went to a wine tasting with him 3 years ago in Paris and he was pleasant, funny and unforgettable. We had a blast! He is so knowledgeable for such a young lad.
Olivier, thanks for keeping me on your e-mail list over the years. This is a fun website and so informative. Surely the Food Channel will pick you up soon…

Marsha : thank you for your advice, I sure would like to try Le Clos Jordanne and I will buy it as soon as I see it on the market. I know some very good ice wine also from Ontario, but I think they are not cheap…

Hello Olivier, Thanks for adding us to the list! My sister and I enjoyed your wine tasting just shy of a year ago. It was so entertaining, informative and one of the highlights of our Paris trip - what a beautiful city. I will pass along the link to friends and winos alike. Wishing you all the best! Christine and Melissa, Chicago.

Hello Olivier, love your video blog. Why the bad rap about English wine? I thought the English were producing some very good Sparkling wines . . . . infact I read they’d been winning a few awards on the continent?

Hi Dale,
Thx for your kind note.
My bad comments about English wine are strictly rugby-based!! Can’t get over that semi-final ;-))
